Participation in Annual Performance
All students have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Performance. The staff and students of Step by Step pride themselves in putting on a professional show for their guests. In order for everything to run smoothly there are rules and expectations which must be met by all participating students.

1. Costumes: All students participating in the Annual Performance must purchase a costume. Students are measured in October and the costume order is placed by mid-November. Costumes arrive in March. Picture day for students participating in the Annual Performance is held in March or April. Costumes are chosen by the instructors based on the style of routine they are choreographing. Costume prices are (approx.) $65-$80 for Pre-Dance, Kinder-Dance, Pre-Primary and Primary Programs and $75-$135 for higher levels. Every effort is made by the staff to pick a suitable costume at the best price.

2. Dress Rehearsal: Attendance to Dress Rehearsal is mandatory. All participating students MUST attend the dress rehearsal held at the Auditorium on the Friday evening before the show, so they are fully aware of what will be happening the night of the show. For example adjustments must be made to routines, as the stage is different dimensions then the studio. The dress rehearsal schedule will be issued at the beginning of May. Students are only required to attend their scheduled rehearsal time, which is approx. 10 minutes per routine. Students will be required to wear their costume, matching tights, etc. to dress rehearsal.

3. Tickets: The question is often asked "Why are student's guests (family members, friends, etc.) charged admission to watch the show?" There are many expenses to cover when putting on the Annual Performance: Backdrops, props, music, equipment, lighting, printing of programs and tickets, janitorial fees and the rental of the auditorium. These expenses are costly. Therefore a minimal fee will be charged for tickets to view the show.

4. Videotaping and Photography of the performance: The Annual Performance is videotaped. A DVD can be purchsed of the performance. Video taping & photography by audience members is not permitted at any time during the show.

5. Volunteers: There are many things that make the year end performance a success. The "behind the scenes" volunteers really make the difference in making the Show run smoothly. The students and staff really appreciate the help that these volunteers provide. Volunteers are needed to work in the change area and at the theatre doors for each Performance. Volunteers will be required to assist us with the entire performance that they sign up for. All volunteers will receive a voucher for a free ticket to the show that they are not volunteering for. Please ensure that your voucher used at the time you purchase tickets to ensure you are assigned a seat with your other guests. Volunteer duties and a sign up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board, in the lobby of the studio in April.
